Planet Zoo 2 Binturong — habitat, biome, size & which animals it can live with

Binturong is one of the 136 Planet Zoo 2 launch species. It is kept in a Habitat, accepts the Rainforest biome, has a Grade 2 at a minimum height of 3 m, climb-proof, and is listed at 0.71 m (nosetorump). It shares a biome and an enclosure type with 21 other species, but the official species data rules out every one of those pairings, so it needs a habitat of its own.

Enclosure and barrier requirements

Binturong is kept in a Habitat and accepts the Rainforest biome. The barrier requirement is Grade 2 · 3m · climb-proof, and that is the number to check before building: a Grade 4 animal behind a Grade 1 wall is the most common way a first zoo stalls.

Which animals can live with the Binturong?

Binturong shares a biome and an enclosure type with 21 other species, but every one of those pairings is ruled out by the official data, because one side of each pair is officially solitary.

Same biome, but not compatible

21 of the species that accept the Rainforest biome cannot share an enclosure with the Binturong, because one side of the pair is officially solitary. These are the pairings people ask about most, so they are spelled out rather than left as an unexplained gap.

Close, but ruled out by enclosure type

18 species share at least one biome with the Binturong but use a different enclosure type — a land habitat against an aquarium or a flying aviary — so they cannot be mixed however well the biomes line up.

Amazonian Giant Centipede, Boa Constrictor, Common Bluetongue, Giant Forest Scorpion, Giant Malaysian Leaf Insect, Giant Tiger Land Snail, Golden Poison Frog, Goliath Beetle, Great Hornbill, Javan Green Magpie, Lehmann's Poison Frog, Long-Tailed Parakeet, Menelaus Blue Morpho, Mexican Redknee, Monarch, Red-Eyed Tree Frog, Sri Lankan Rose, Toco Toucan

Behaviour, size and weight

Binturong is classed as Solitary in Frontier's Social & Reproduction notes: “The binturong is a solitary animal but is not territorial and individuals will tolerate each other in the same space. If two binturongs meet, they are likely to avoid each other unless it is…” On size the game lists 0.71 m (nosetorump) for the male and 0.84 m for the female. Size and weight together decide the minimum habitat footprint, so use the female figure when you are sizing a breeding pair rather than a display animal.

Building for the Binturong in a starter zoo

The barrier is the first thing to plan: Grade 2 at a minimum height of 3 m, climb-proof. That is a cheap early-game wall, and it is part of what makes this species easy to house in a new zoo. Build the fence line before you place the animal, because a habitat that fails the barrier check will not accept it at all.

For the outdoor build, terrain and planting matter as much as the fence. Paint the habitat to its listed biome and use that biome's plant set: a species kept outside its biome loses welfare even when every other number on this page is satisfied.

It is classed as solitary, so one adult to a habitat is the safe default. The welfare warnings in a shared build almost always trace back to this line.

Range and conservation status

Binturong is listed for Asia. Its conservation status is Vulnerable — one step away from Endangered. Taxonomically the Zoopedia places it in order Carnivora and the family Viverridae. Conservation status is recorded for all 136 species in the official export and does not change how the animal is housed, but it is the field that tells you how rare the species is in the wild.

Which enclosure-mates to try first

There is no enclosure-mate to try. 21 species share its biome and enclosure type and every one of those pairings is ruled out by the official data, so this is a single-species habitat by design.

FAQ

Can Binturong live with other animals in Planet Zoo 2?
No. 21 species share a biome and an enclosure type with Binturong, but every one of those pairings is ruled out by the official data, so it cannot be mixed into a shared habitat.
What biome does Binturong need in Planet Zoo 2?
Binturong accepts 1 biome: Rainforest. Biome is not cosmetic — a species placed outside its listed biomes will not thrive, however good the enclosure looks.
What barrier grade does Binturong need?
Binturong needs Grade 2 · 3m · climb-proof. Grade 1 to 2 sits at the cheap end of the range, which makes this a species you can house early in a new zoo without a rebuild.
Is Binturong in the base game or Deluxe?
Binturong ships with the base game in Planet Zoo 2 — no extra purchase is needed to add it to a zoo.
How big is Binturong in Planet Zoo 2?
Binturong is listed at 0.71 m (nosetorump), with an adult male weight of 9–20 kg. Small-bodied species like this are the ones that fit into a starter zoo with room to spare, which is why they make good first purchases.
Is Binturong social or solitary?
Frontier's own Social & Reproduction text classes Binturong as solitary. “The binturong is a solitary animal but is not territorial and individuals will tolerate each other in the same space. If two binturongs meet, they are…” That classification is what decides most of the compatibility verdicts on this page.
What continent is the Binturong from in Planet Zoo 2?
The Zoopedia lists it for Asia. Continent is a display and scenario field rather than a housing requirement — biome and enclosure type are what decide whether a habitat is accepted — but it is the fastest way to find species that fit a themed area.
Is the Binturong endangered?
It is listed as Vulnerable, which is one step away from Endangered in the game's own Zoopedia export. The status carries no barrier or space penalty, so a Critically Endangered species is not harder to keep than a Least Concern one — it only changes how rare it is in the wild.
