Planet Zoo 2 Deluxe Edition — all 6 exclusive animals, price and whether it is worth it

The Deluxe Upgrade Pack is the only way to get 6 species, and two of them are the headline exhibit animals of the whole game. This page lists exactly what the upgrade contains, what it costs in each region, and what the base game is missing without it — all from Frontier's own store copy and Steam pricing.

The 6 Deluxe-exclusive animals

These species do not exist in a Standard Edition zoo. Note where they land: the Deluxe pack covers one animal in each major category, which is why it matters more than a simple count of six suggests.

What each one actually costs you

Golden Eagle — the only Deluxe aviary bird

The single flying species behind the upgrade. Five biomes (Desert, Savannah, Taiga, Temperate, Tundra) makes it the most placeable bird in the game.

Great Hammerhead — the biggest fish

At 3.50 m it is the largest aquarium animal in the roster, needs Open Sea and Reef, and is the only Grade 3 aquarium species.

Blue and Gold Fusilier & Longfin Batfish

Two reef fish, filling out the shallow-water end of the reef tank with the species the base game lacks.

Golden Lion Tamarin

A Rainforest primate on a Grade 1 barrier — the cheapest large-mammal exhibit in the Deluxe pack and a good early-game animal.

Axolotl

An exhibit amphibian in Lakes & Rivers, the only Deluxe species that lives in a glass box rather than a habitat.

Exclusive animal signs

Cosmetic only: a selection of signage you cannot place without the upgrade. It does not affect ratings or income.

There is no Ultimate Edition and no Deluxe-only game mode. Frontier has announced two editions, and the upgrade is purely animals plus signs.

Is the $15 worth it?

Buy the Deluxe Edition if

you are building an aquarium or an aviary. The Great Hammerhead, the two reef fish and the Golden Eagle are all Deluxe-only, and those categories are the most-searched, most-counter-intuitive parts of the game. If you want to build the biggest fish or the most flexible bird, the upgrade is the only route.

Buy the Standard Edition if

you want the campaign and the sandbox with the base roster. 124 of the 130 launch species are in the base game, including every iconic animal — the lion, the elephant, the tiger, the panda and the giraffe. Nothing about the Deluxe pack changes gameplay systems.

Do not pay for an “Ultimate” edition

it does not exist for Planet Zoo 2. Third-party stores listing one are either bundling the Deluxe pack under a different name or selling something else. Two editions is the complete story.

Physical edition: October 20

The most common follow-up question is whether you can get a disc. You can, but not on launch day: digital release is 13 October 2026 and physical disc editions arrive 20 October 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced physical PC edition, and the pre-purchase Bonus Content Pack is a pre-launch digital offer.

FAQ

What animals are in the Planet Zoo 2 Deluxe Edition?

The Deluxe Upgrade Pack adds 6 species: Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead, Longfin Batfish. Every one of them is exclusive to the upgrade — they are not in the base game roster.

How much is the Planet Zoo 2 Deluxe Edition?

Frontier's own SRPs are $49.99 / £39.99 / €49.99 for the Standard Edition and $64.99 / £54.99 / €64.99 for the Deluxe Edition — a $15 / £15 / €15 step up. Regional pricing differs: Australia is A$70.50 vs A$90.95, Canada CDN$59.99 vs CDN$76.99 and Brazil R$154.99 vs R$199.99 on Steam.

Is the Deluxe Edition worth it?

It depends on whether you want the six species. For roughly a third more money you get six animals plus a set of exclusive signs. Three of the six are marquee builds — the Golden Eagle (the only Deluxe aviary bird), the Great Hammerhead (the largest aquarium animal in the game) and the Golden Lion Tamarin (a rainforest primate). If you are building an aquarium or an aviary, the upgrade is where two of the best exhibit animals live. If you only want to play the campaign with the base roster, the Standard Edition is complete on its own: all 124 other species are in it.

Is there an Ultimate Edition of Planet Zoo 2?

Not at launch. Frontier has announced exactly two editions — Standard and Deluxe — so an Ultimate Edition is an expectation carried over from other zoo games rather than a product that exists here. If one is announced it will be added to this page with the same sourcing as everything else.

Is there a physical edition?

Yes, and it is a later date than the digital launch. Frontier confirmed physical disc editions release on Tuesday 20 October 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S from major retailers, while the digital game launches 13 October 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What is the pre-purchase bonus?

The Bonus Content Pack, delivered at launch for any pre-order: an exclusive Toucan Eat Shop and its signage, three unique animal donation bins, and a tiger photo stand-in wall. It is a decoration pack, not an animal pack — nothing in it changes what you can keep.

Does the Deluxe Edition change anything else in the game?

No. The upgrade adds the six species and the exclusive animal signs. Modes, map size, building limits and the conservation loop are identical in both editions — there is no Deluxe-only mode.
